Press Release Body: When five year-old Jaeden Vasqeuez decided to explore the big wide world without his mother, he showed a lot more guts than most people give kids credit for.
Living with his mother, across the street from the Public School 111, Jaeden was meant to go to the Beacon after-school program next door. However, the brightly coloured yellow school bus looked much more exciting to the five-year old. After all, lots of kids got onto it every night.
Happily Jaeden watched the world race by, as he sat quietly on the bus with the other kids. At the last stop, the 60 year-old grandmother bus driver, Ewers called, 'Everyone out'. There was nothing for Jaeden to do, but climb off with all the others. Ewers didn't know that Jaeden's mother was not among the waiting parents on the pavement. No children were allowed off the bus if an adult was not waiting for them
Completely unfazed by the situation, Jaeden picked on an unsuspecting Good Samaritan, who just happened to be there at the time. "I'm lost", he told her. The Good Samaritan calmly rang Jaeden's school. It was Jaeden's mother who went into shock, when a strange woman on the phone said, "I have your son". Leaping into a cab with Jaeden, the Good Samaritan returned him safely to his home.
Bonilla, Jaeden's mum, received no explanation from the Education Department, the school, or the bus company, a week later. She will now sue the City, while the parents of the Primary School 111, look on in shock horror. Where can their kids be safe, if not at school?
The question has to be asked, whose fault was it? Should the school be held accountable, or the person who put Jaeden on the bus. Maybe it was the bus driver who put Jaedon out of the bus, though she says she is being used a scapegoat. Perhaps it was just that the bright yellow bus was too great a temptation for an adventurous five-year old.
There is no doubt, that Jaeden showed the same adventure travel spirit which led so many pioneers to go on treacherous and unknown journeys in the past. Journeys that lead to the formation of many a colony.
